I recently had the honor of printing my good friend, Stephanie and Nick’s wedding favors and thank you postcards. Letterpress is a lot of fun because there are so many options available for couples. In this case, we used antique lead & wood type, a custom-carved linoleum block, and some photopolymer plates to create the perfect, rustic pieces for their outdoor September 2014 wedding.
We wanted to incorporate the same sunflower motif from her invitation into the day of and day after items, so we had a photopolymer plate made to print from. The plates are made from graphic files, which are turned into film and then photopolymer plates.
After mixing a custom blue ink color to match their invitations, we used a boxcar base with the plates next to some brass ruling to create the back of a thank you postcard:
We also worked a hand-carved heart onto the front of the postcard. I printed the pieces on the C&P printing press at iota press in Sebastopol, California.
The seed pack favors were my favorite part of the project. We filled the envelopes with sunflower seeds provided by Forgotten Farms, a local farm located in Cotati, California.
Seeing the invitations sitting on the guest tables was almost better than printing the items! the ceremony was beautiful and the reception was too much fun. Warren woods in occidental set the perfect backdrop for Nick and Steph to say “I do.”
The result was rustic, original, and full of love. Thank you both for including me in your special day as a vendor and friend! I can’t wait to watch your love grow wild over the years.
